The repositioning of the Black Man

In the first presidential debate, Sen. John McCain repeatedly accused former Sen. Barack Obama of lacking experience, naive, and more, ironically, not knowing the difference between a tactic and a strategy. It was an astounding accusation.

On Super Tuesday, after see the Maverick and war hero (alias) go to defeat McCain, a state after another, one thing was clear: "that" (aka Obama) not only know the difference between tactics and strategies, but that has dominated them. Showed that there must be a former prisoner of war tactics used effectively and strategies to achieve their goals.

This article focuses on how black men can use the same tactics and strategies used by President Obama to reposition itself for success in their professional efforts and a push to move black man.

First, let's define terms to ensure that we on the same page and speak the same language:

Tactics: a device to an end.
Strategy: a plan of care or method, a clever stratagem b: the art of making or use of the plans or stratagems toward a goal. (There are references to war, many facts in their definitions alternatives, thus the reason for the arrogance of McCain.)

The common use and often misunderstood concept of "position" was created by pioneers Marketing Al Ries and Jack Trout in the 70s. According to them, occupy a position simply means mental position unique in one's mind. We all located in one way or another. The positioning is the deliberate effort to establish and the position of a controller. To change the position is to change or improve its original position. The act of positioning and repositioning should be designed and used as an element of the strategy.

Now let's move on to specifics repositioning of how black men can be achieved through lessons taught by the President of implementing Barack Obama's historic campaign.

First, I must say that while both black and white racial issues in this election deftly handled with diplomacy impressive, we all know – if we are willing to admit or not – that race, and sexuality, is always a problem. It's the big elephant in the room that we are aware of, but try to ignore, like trying to ignore the fact I now have more than a decade of experience working in business and still have to work together with another black man. With the election of our first president black, expect a trickle down effect will take place and employers will be able to transcend racial issues that can change my situation (or isolation), and an increase in the presence of black men will be produced.

There is no doubt that we have crossed an epic racial barrier – but we still have many battles to be fought. No We can be naive, racist issues (not to be confused with racial issues) still exist and undoubtedly will surface during the presidency of Obama. Many of the racial issues that pertain specifically to men and black effect can now be treated in an open and politically, as they were overshadowed by the universal concern in the election. Focus on them has created the appearance of a perspective of imbalance in favor of Obama. After all, questions in black are esoteric.

The Obama campaign team, led by David Plouffe, and his chief strategist David Axelrod, have recognized that one of the key principles of the campaign was, in fact, to keep the discussions focused on race. From surveys and interviews, the campaign concluded, from the beginning that it was imperative to define Obama's candidacy in terms that go beyond skin color.

Who were his first efforts to? Blacks. Apparently, it is considered essential to get blacks to go beyond skepticism "natural" one of them might become president. They knew Obama would have to be to be elected as leader, because leaders do not choose their followers, the followers choose their leaders – regardless of race.

In a report on MSNBC.com by Adam Nagourney, Jim Rutenberg and Jeff Zeleny, the Obama campaign team made the following quote: "The biggest problem that we race to solve is not with white voters, "Mr. Axelrod said," but African-American voters, a deep sense of skepticism that this could happen. "

How are you?

These are called interracial issues. They offer a window, if not a degree, how long the roots of negativity and its insidious effects may have on the psyche of an oppressed people. "We were really skeptical? Yes, at first, but did not doubt the competence Obama, who doubted their capabilities based on our system and our individual and collective black experiences.

After identifying the obstacles to the House White Obama camp had its agenda, a mission and a message. They were ready to run a course textbook on repositioning of Obama, and to offer men U.S. black invaluable lessons that could be used to transform their lives and achieve greater success in their professional activities.

This leads to the Lesson 1 in the repositioning of the black man: eliminate skepticism – especially your own – and to identify barriers to their success.

With the mantra Obama's campaign for change you can believe in, and Yes we can!, created a strategy to aa nourish hope and building loyalty at a time when our nation is at war and in economic distress, while optimism infuse the psyche of African Americans, and most Americans, in the process.

The strategy was brilliant, but not surprising, considering that Obama wrote a book called The Audacity of Hope, in which he wrote: "Hope is that thing inside us that insists, despite evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us if we have the courage to reach for him and work for it, and fight for it. "The tears that flowed so copiously during his acceptance speech were tears of hope. It is clearly understood that one can not hope without optimism. The desired, may be entitled to his forthcoming book The benefits of optimism.

Lesson 2 in the repositioning of the black man: to understand the mental and emotional state of people who will inspire optimism. Build a bridge from them to you (and not vice versa).

Psychologist Martin Seligman, author of Learned Optimism, says that optimism has been defined by some researchers as simply see the side good and suggests that his explanation of why something happens you have a big impact on how you will act in the future and what effect their actions will generate. This in turn has final impact on their self-esteem and self-image. Optimists expect the best outcome, even setbacks, and are more motivated to carry it out.

This is why a record number of blacks, young and first time voters shed their apathy and zeal go to the polls in record numbers, that represented 13 percent of the electorate.

The importance of optimism should not be underestimated. Since studies show that black men live 7.1 years less than other racial groups have higher death rates than women for all leading causes of death, and the experience of the disproportionately higher mortality rates in all the leading causes of death that would be interested to know that optimism has increased health benefits. The May 2008 Harvard Men's Health Watch explores possible reasons for this connection.

Among the report's findings: Highly pessimistic men were three Times More likely to develop hypertension, and people who express positive emotions had lower blood pressure. In one study, the most pessimistic men were more than twice as likely to develop heart disease compared with the most optimistic. That is welcome news since 40% of men black die prematurely from cardiovascular disease, compared with 21% of whites.

The report concludes: These results argue persuasively that optimism is good for health. It is possible that optimists enjoy better health and longer lives because they lead healthy lifestyles, build stronger social support networks, and get better medical care. In addition, optimism itself may have biological benefits, such as lower levels of stress hormones and less inflammation.

Because I know that many black men are going to church people, who are sure to revel in the fact that the Bible contained in Scripture in optimism and its effects. (Matthew 8:25-27) the results of pessimism about the lack of faith. The pessimism stems from the doubt, optimism born of faith. The black man will be repositioned more self-confidence and prove to be adept at asking the faith of those who once refused to give. Being extraordinary is the norm.

Cornell Belcher, a pollster who worked for Obama's campaigns and studies of racial voting patterns, told reporters, "It would be difficult for an African-American to be elected president in this country, however, it is difficult for a special person who happens to be African American to be elected president. "Obama made mention of this in his acceptance speech, when he said: "It was never the most likely candidate for the office." But he ran anyway. He ran unlike any other presidential candidate in history because I had to. Analysts say that a perfect season was extraordinary in its execution.

Lesson 3 in the repositioning of the black man: understand that being qualified begins in your mind with his own image, even less likely candidate can get the job. Also, you are no longer less likely candidates.

Like Obama, you must make it your mission for employers to feel comfortable with you and the paper they work in his company, showing its ability to handle the challenges within this role. If the values are aligned with yours, all you have to do is to effectively manage expectations and delivery – that is what the world is waiting for Obama to do next.

It was obvious from the start that Obama was an adroit politician, but improved during the election in the same way that any talented and driven athlete gets better as season progresses. He became superlative in the playoffs policy, the return of the election, and was simply indomitable in each of their debates. He just won that election, he restored faith in the integrity of the Presidency, while repositioning itself and showing strong character.

Lesson 4 in the repositioning of the black male: show character solid at all times.

Where does the character building process begin? At the start of your trip: at home with their parents and college. It intensifies when you are carrying out the experience and skills necessary to successfully navigate through their careers to enter the workforce. No matter where you want your vocational journey to go because most people can not imagine where it will end up, but only one must be prepared for success when you get there.

Obama probably could not imagine being president when he was working with victims of housing and discrimination in employment. That experience, along with teaching at the University of Chicago Law, and landing a place in the Senate clearly helped him to acquire the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to navigate the slippery slopes of the political process without being a stumbling block - despite the disproportionate lack of experience I had compared to McCain.

Lesson 5 in the repositioning of the black man: lack of experience can not be equated to lack of opportunities unless you allow it.

As noted above, for the character of many Americans is formed at the university. For black men, assistance to college – in school and community college – is declining. According to the Spring 2006 Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System Survey (IPEDS), Black, not Hispanic male students had the lowest graduation rate for three years – 16 percent – among all male college students of minority communities.

In an article published in 2007, the disappearance of Acts: The Black Man Leakage community college, Lorenzo I. Esters and Dr. David C. Mosby write: What is most worrisome about the current state of Black men in U.S. college campus community is that those in positions of leadership have been slow to recognize the situation as a state of emergency and were almost reluctant to acknowledge their responsibility to take corrective action. Research studies accumulated on the issue of retention of Black male students can be a source of community colleges to gain some insight on how to respond appropriately to the epidemic.

During the past 33 years, black women were enrolled in four-year colleges at higher rates than black men, according the results of a new study by the Higher Education Research Institute at the Graduate School of Education at UCLA and Information Studies. In 2004, women black comprising 59.3 percent of all first time, the black full-time students attending four year institutions, compared to 54.5 percent in 1971.

With this type of research and data, why there have been special initiatives or broader scope of universities to address this issue? My research found a possible answer:

Black male enrollment are surprisingly low in many colleges and universities, including those with a good record in attracting a diverse student body. While some demographers have noted this situation for years, many schools have avoided addressing the issue head on by fear that this could reinforce stereotypes, offend women or to the conservative critique.

Maybe Obama will put this on his growing list of priorities. He is very aware of the problem and referred to him on several occasions, the first Democratic National Convention in his speech when he said "Yes, we help out success for young men who fall into crime and despair. But we must also admit that programs alone can not replace parents (and) that the government can not turn off the television and make a child do her homework … that fathers must take more responsibility for providing love and guidance to their children. "

Last year, the NAACP forum, July 12, 2007, also was quoted as saying: "We have more work to do when young black men languish in prison to attend colleges and universities across America. "That is incorrect. The media has perpetuated the myth that reporting by the total number of black male prisoners, compared with the total number of college-age (18 to 25) black men. Accurate statistics reveal that since 2005 there are, in fact, the age black male college enrollment colleges and universities who are not imprisoned in the same group.

Lesson 6 in the repositioning of the black man to increase and broaden their education in goal of becoming smarter. This includes but is not limited to, enroll in school. Education builds character and is a key tactic in our strategy overall success. Education shapes values, perspectives alter, and fosters altruism. Studies show that there is a direct link between education increases and lowers the levels of crime and violence – even within the prison system.

Education is also the source from which the tactic resolutions to the problems mentioned above and those that have plagued us for centuries was built. The black man should encourage the replacement of the next generation of men black to take an interest in other sports and entertainment activities at a younger age. We must deepen our talent pool of policy makers future, which can promote and sustain change. A generation of young people who, like Obama, will be efficient in the use of tactics and strategies to achieve results.

That is the crux of the success of President Obama. Success is within reach closer to the black man repositioned to understand that positioning is an art, psychology, and a science. Not only for the wily, psychological, or scientist, is to determine the visionaries who want a better life and a greater share of resources for their families, their communities and themselves.

And while we have reached our most significant milestone that the black man, we must now look towards the future and prepare for her in this, the way Obama did when their emotions contained, less than 30 minutes after being elected, and had the presence of mind during his brilliant moment for a chance to handle the heightened expectations, stressing in his acceptance speech:

"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We can not get in a year or even a term, but the U.S. – I've never been more optimistic than I was tonight we're going to get. I promise – that we as people get … not have reversals (see previous paragraph for the optimism and reverses) and false starts. There are many who will disagree with every decision or policy that I do as President, and know that government can not solve all problems. But always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I'll listen to you, especially when we disagree. "

The final lesson in the repositioning of the black man: always see Table Great and his place within it.
