Printers CD – 5 Tips to use when buying a printer CD – Part 1
There are many factors to consider when making a decision on which printer CD to buy for your business. This article addresses some of the basics as choosing the correct printer manufacturer, the cost of CD printers, inkjet or thermal, productivity, speed and durability. Part 2 of this Article shall dig deeper into the basic criteria listed above, and in the most advanced and print quality, color matching, unique impression on each disk, the total cost of ownership, used DVD / CD Printers and buying a trusted retailer.
For the purposes of this article I'm focusing on single DVD / CD printers, duplicators, not with printers that can print and / or copy CDs and DVDs at the same time. I will save that topic for a future article.
The aim of this article is to provide a basis for making the best decision when buying a printer from CD to do it right the first time. In this economy can not afford to make the mistake of buying the wrong printer for your CDs and DVDs. Spending money on the wrong printer CD / DVD for your needs and wasting time thinking that both frustrating and a poor use of resources company.
The research for this article was acquired over 13 years of sales, use, testing, support, and repair of printers CD and DVD. My experience is with middle level and high-end professional disc printers, so these tips may not be relevant for prospective buyers of entry-part feeding high-level disc printers that sell for $ 300 or less. Sub $ 300 disc printers are clearly a niche, but for professional printing CD needs that tend to have high costs of supplies, poor support, slow print speeds and in many cases the print quality.
<strong> Tip # 1 – Start with the 3 major manufacturers </ strong>
Rimage, Microboards and Primera have been in the printer CD manufacturing business from the duplicator that is childhood. In my opinion they have more than 80% of the market share of CD / DVD sold worldwide. The "3 large "are the leaders in their respective printing technologies and offer more stability in the printer market the disc. These three manufacturers are in a better position to be in the business and the support of their competitors less stable in the coming months and years. They have also demonstrated the technical and support Post Warranty, which is higher than other manufacturers in the CD / DVD duplication and printing market.
<strong> Council # 2 – Cost Printer CD / DVD – inkjet or thermal </ strong>
Costs vary widely, but the main points defined are the type of print engine technology used in the printer – inkjet or Thermal Transfer, and whether or not the printing system CD or manually automatic. Inkjet CD based / DVD printers are less expensive than thermal transfer CD printers. A good inkjet printer automated costs $ 2500, while a good printer color thermal transfer CD costs $ 8500 or more. Disk capacity and software features also play a role in cost. Part 2 of this article is immersed in the deepest on the pros and cons of Inkjet Printers and thermal based.
<strong> Tip # 3 – automated or manual? </ Strong>
Choose between a printer manually hand feed the CDs or DVDs, or collect Automatic CD printer with a robotic arm or mechanism that moves and burned discs for you is a big decision about initial costs, labor and productivity. Good hand-fed manual disc printers start at $ 699, while an entry level printer with a 20 CD auto-cost disk capacity around $ 999. Bigger and faster automated systems containing up to 300 discs can cost up to $ 9500. So how to decide what is best for you?
First, estimate the number of discs to be printed by week, month and year. Factor in the growth in that quarter to quarter the number or year. I found that many organizations underestimate their use projections do not account for other departments or employees who need the printer services new CD too. Second, determine if you have peak periods of production of CD or DVD. Many organizations need to produce records of only 1 per week or month, but they need all the 100 or 500 in a few hours or one day. Third, determine the value of your time. Does time to put each disk in the printer by hand, or is the time or your employee better spent doing something else?
<strong> Tip # 4 – Speed </ Strong>
A question me again and again is how many discs per hour or day can make the printer CD? The speed which is printed in a CD or DVD depends on several factors. (1) print coverage, (2) the resolution selected in the printer driver, and (3) of the printer itself. For example, an inkjet printer to print a CD label with a small color logo, just a few lines of text with the controller Print set in a lower resolution, can print 200 CD's per hour. The same printer can only print performance of 50 CD's of a hour with full color from edge to edge print and the printer driver set to the highest resolution.
To a lesser extent the same applies for thermal CD printers. Rimage Prism Thermal Printer CD will have more performance with less print coverage, but will not suffer drastic decrease performance against a graphic print more print coverage, as inkjet printers do. Interestingly, the Rimage Everest thermal printer disk has the same performance with a time line of text on the label of the chart, as another work of art with a coverage of 100% print. Rimage Everest III Everest and 600 printers each impression around 65 discs per hour, regardless of print coverage.
<strong> Council # 5 – CD Printer Durability </ strong>
Overall disc printers that are made of plastic are less durable than those made of metal. Most inkjet printers I've used and tested in recent years are made mostly of plastic components while most of thermal printers are made of metal parts. Having said that we have had good results and our clients have had success with inkjet printers Microboards Ink Primera and a useful service on average – life of 3-5 years, depending on how users seek. We have some Rimage Prism thermal printers in the CD / DVD of the production room that are well in its 10th year of service. Of note, these CD printers and thermal ink jet have scheduled a cleaning and spare parts in recent years.
<strong> In conclusion </ strong>
Start with your Research Dvd Printer CD with the three major manufacturers – Rimage, Microboards and Primera. Forecast of daily and monthly and annual CD printing needs DVD and determine whether a manual or automated printer makes more sense. Look, both inkjet and thermal options, while taking into account your budget and the time you want the printer CD to last. If you do not have the budget to the CD printer that best suits your needs, try to find a printer used good or you may find that outsourcing of CD and DVD duplication and printing to a professional services firm has more business sense.
